The current Coronavirus health crisis is affecting all our daily lives, and it is having a huge impact on two critical sources of news and information that our community has relied on for years and needs in this time of crisis – the Palo Alto Weekly and the Daily Post.
As most of you know, these local papers represent a key source of accurate and detailed information on key issues that directly impact our lives. Whether it be about road closures, planned developments, or just the latest event at the local high schools, the Weekly and Post have been there to inform and report on the things we care about each and every day.
Newspapers rely on their advertising revenue to support their operations. The Coronavirus has closed down many of those sources now. There is a real danger that both newspapers would be forced to reduce services just when our community needs them the most.
To prevent that from happening at this critical time, PASZ would like to encourage each of its members to do the following:
- Subscribe to Palo Alto Weekly / Online – for as little as $5 a month you are helping the paper continue publishing. (The Daily Post doesn’t offer subscriptions.)
- Support, where possible, the advertisers in the Weekly and/or Post. Tell those businesses that you are using them because of their newspaper ads.
- Call, email, or text your neighbors (keeping “social distancing”) – ask them to do the same –- both these papers provide important local information you can’t find any where else in our community.
PASZ has prepared a series of ads encouraging all residents of Palo Alto to support their local newspapers.
We need your support. Please go to our DONATE page and contribute to our advertising fund for this important task.
Now, in this most critical time, we need to recognize the vital importance of having good and accurate information and the valuable resources we have in both the Palo Alto Weekly and Daily Post.
