SAMPLE LETTER
Dear Senator Hill / Assembly Member Berman
Please oppose SB 1120 [Atkins, Wiener], which empowers developers to build four units of luxury housing, or two McMansions, to replace single-family homes in more than 800 California municipalities, dispensing with public hearings and thus silencing working-class and communities of color.
SB 1120 lets cities apply local ADU laws, to double its envisioned four units to eight luxury units per single-family lot, further spurring speculation and destabilizing home ownership in California. At the same time, the bill requires just one parking space per home in most communities.
SB 1120 requires NO affordable units, adding to California’s affordability crisis. It bans local discretionary review, which largely silences working-class homeowners (particularly so in Southern California’s highly diverse and still relatively affordable suburbs, prime targets of investment groups).
Please vote NO on SB 1120.
